What this trial studies

This is an observational questionnaire-based project enrolling adults on chronic hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis to collect information about sexual function, desire, arousal, orgasm, body image, and couple-related issues. Participants complete standardized questions about sexual health and related factors such as fatigue, comorbidities, and treatment effects, with no change to medical care. The study is open to men and women and aims to fill gaps in the literature where most prior work has focused on male patients. Data will be collected at a single center (Ambroise Paré in Neuilly-sur-Seine) to describe prevalence and correlates of sexual dysfunction in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged over 18 who have been receiving chronic dialysis (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for at least six months and who can understand and complete a questionnaire are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with major cognitive or psychiatric disorders that prevent questionnaire completion, those too unwell to participate without discomfort or excessive fatigue, or those who decline participation are unlikely to benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians recognize sexual health problems in dialysis patients and guide better counseling, referrals, and supportive care to improve quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has documented high rates of sexual dysfunction in dialysis patients, but comprehensive and up-to-date studies that include women, sexual diversity, and couple aspects are limited.
