How common NF1 is in Egypt and how it progresses and is treated
Prevalence, Clinical Characteristics, Progression, and Management of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 in Egypt (NF1-Egy)
This project will look at people in Egypt with neurofibromatosis type 1 to see how common it is, what symptoms they have, how it changes over time, and how it is managed.

What this trial studies
This observational, multi-site project collects clinical records from patients diagnosed with NF1 in Egypt between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2023 to describe prevalence, clinical features, disease progression, and management patterns. Inclusion requires a documented NF1 diagnosis meeting NIH or revised criteria; patients with missing diagnostic data will be excluded. Data will be drawn from participating research sites in Al Mansurah, Alexandria, and Aswān and will include information on cutaneous and plexiform neurofibromas, ocular findings, osseous lesions, and any neoplastic complications. The analysis will summarize demographic patterns, phenotype variability by age, and common treatment or monitoring approaches used in these centers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: People of any age diagnosed with NF1 according to NIH or revised criteria between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2023 with available medical records are eligible.
Not a fit: People without a documented NF1 diagnosis or lacking the necessary medical records are not likely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could improve recognition, monitoring, and local care strategies for people with NF1 in Egypt.
How similar studies have performed: Similar registry and observational approaches in other countries have clarified NF1 prevalence and natural history, but large-scale, country-specific data from Egypt are limited.
