What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of home treatment (HT) for individuals suffering from severe substance use disorders compared to traditional inpatient treatment. The study will focus on readmission rates within six months post-discharge, as previous data indicates a high rate of readmissions during this period. Participants will be randomly assigned to either home treatment or standard inpatient care, with the goal of preparing for a larger-scale study if the pilot proves successful.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and above with a substance use disorder who can communicate in French and consent to randomization.
Not a fit: Patients with severe psychiatric conditions, acute suicidal ideation, or significant medical comorbidities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more accessible and effective treatment option for patients with severe addictive disorders.
How similar studies have performed: Previous implementations of home treatment in adult psychiatry have shown success, suggesting potential for this approach in addiction treatment.
