What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of delivering colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) services directly to patients' homes, utilizing 5G technology to enhance the process. It targets patients at low risk for colorectal cancer who are currently facing delays in traditional colonoscopy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By providing an alternative diagnostic method, the study seeks to alleviate pressure on healthcare systems while ensuring patient safety and convenience. The approach involves fitting a receiver belt and administering a capsule without requiring hospital visits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 18-55 who have been selected for colon capsule endoscopy based on NHS England criteria.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or unable to provide consent, as well as those who do not meet the standard CCE exclusion criteria, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve access to colorectal cancer screening for patients while minimizing hospital visits.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of CCE has been explored, this specific approach of home delivery using 5G technology is novel and has not been widely tested.
