Home-based whole-body vibration for knee osteoarthritis (VIBE-Rx2)
Pilot Investigation on the Effects of Sub Acute (12 Week) Home Base Whole-body Vibration Training in Osteoarthritis.
NA · Augusta University · NCT06058169
This 12-week program will try a home whole-body vibration machine with people ages 40–75 who have knee osteoarthritis to see if it reduces knee pain and inflammation.

What this trial studies
Researchers at Augusta University will enroll adults aged 40–75 with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis who can stand for at least 20 minutes and have had pain for six months or more. Participants will follow a sub-acute (12-week) home whole-body vibration (WBV) training program using the Vibrant Health Ultimate machine while investigators measure knee pain, circulating inflammatory markers, and vascular function. People with balance problems, recent knee surgery, epilepsy, pregnancy, or recent WBV use are excluded for safety and to avoid confounding. Clinical visits at the Georgia Prevention Institute will collect baseline and post-intervention clinical, blood, and vascular measurements to compare changes over time.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 40–75 with at least six months of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis who can stand for 20 minutes and have no recent knee surgery, balance/fall history, epilepsy, or pregnancy.
Not a fit: People under 40 or over 75, those with balance or fall history, recent knee surgery, epilepsy, pregnancy, recent WBV use, or who cannot stand for 20 minutes are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a low-impact, home-based option to reduce knee pain and systemic inflammation for older adults with knee osteoarthritis.
How similar studies have performed: Prior studies in older adults and people with knee osteoarthritis have reported that WBV can improve function and influence inflammatory markers, although results vary by vibration protocol and study design.
