What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of a new 14-week home-based rehabilitation program called 'Stronger at Home' with usual care for improving functional recovery in older adults who have experienced hip fractures. Participants will engage in a self-directed program that includes educational resources and an illustrated exercise regimen tailored to their needs. The study will evaluate the program's effectiveness at the end of the intervention and assess its cost-utility and long-term impact on recovery at 6 and 12 months post-discharge.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling individuals aged 55 and older who have sustained a hip fracture and are being discharged to their home or a retirement home.
Not a fit: Patients who are coming from or being discharged to long-term care facilities or those with fractures due to pathological diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance recovery outcomes for older adults after hip fractures, leading to improved mobility and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous pilot studies of the Stronger at Home program have shown feasibility, indicating potential for success in larger trials.
