What this trial studies

This study evaluates the Parenting Young Children (PYC) program, designed specifically for parents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) who are at risk of neglecting their children. The program aims to provide tailored support to improve parenting skills and prevent child removal. The evaluation will include quantitative, process, and qualitative assessments to gather insights from both parents and children involved in the program. The study will be conducted across multiple centers, comparing the PYC program to standard treatment practices.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have children aged 0-9 years living at home and are assessed by social services for parenting support.

Not a fit: Patients currently experiencing ongoing substance abuse, child abuse, or severe mental illness may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance parenting skills and reduce the risk of child neglect among parents with IDDs.

How similar studies have performed: While the PYC program has shown promising results in preliminary studies, this evaluation aims to provide the first robust evidence of its effectiveness.
