What this trial studies

This study explores the Hospital at Home (H@H) model for patients with decompensated cirrhosis, aiming to understand their perspectives on home-based care. The study is divided into three phases: the first phase occurs while participants are hospitalized, the second phase involves the implementation of the H@H program, and the third phase focuses on rehabilitation and self-management. The program allows patients to receive acute medical care and ancillary services in their homes, potentially improving their quality of care and satisfaction. The study seeks to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of this model in managing liver disease.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with chronic liver disease or cirrhosis who can live independently and have a caregiver present during the acute care phase.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, incarcerated, or have severe comorbidities such as new hemodialysis or HIV with low CD4 counts may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance patient satisfaction and outcomes by providing effective care in the comfort of their homes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with the Hospital at Home model in managing various conditions, indicating potential for effectiveness in this novel application for liver disease.
