What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of a structured High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program on endurance and trunk stability in children diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Conducted as a randomized controlled trial at Khuwaja Arshad Hospital, 30 participants aged 3 to 14 will be divided into two groups: one receiving HIIT and the other receiving routine physical therapy. The study aims to address the lack of research on HIIT's benefits for this population, utilizing validated assessments to measure outcomes before and after the intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 3 to 14 with a confirmed diagnosis of Down Syndrome who can understand instructions and walk independently.
Not a fit: Patients with neurological conditions or significant mobility impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance physical fitness and stability in children with Down Syndrome, improving their overall quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While exercise interventions for individuals with Down Syndrome have shown benefits, the specific application of HIIT in this population is relatively novel and underexplored.
