High-altitude stem cell and bone marrow transplant registry on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

High-Altitude Hematology Observation-Stem Cell Transplantation (HALO-SCT): A Prospective Real-World Cohort Study in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Observational Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University · NCT07205523

What this trial studies

HALO-SCT is a prospective observational registry based at the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University that enrolls patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and their donors. The registry captures demographic, diagnostic, treatment, outcome, and health‑resource data and incorporates historical cases alongside ongoing prospective follow-up. Biospecimens including peripheral blood and bone marrow are collected at baseline and follow-up for future multi‑omics analyses. No experimental treatments are mandated and all clinical care follows routine practice while data are used to build long‑term research infrastructure and support collaborations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are people with hematologic diseases who are planning or undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital on or after September 1, 2023 and who can give informed consent and complete follow‑up.

Not a fit: Patients unlikely to benefit include those who cannot provide long‑term follow‑up due to severe comorbidities or logistical barriers, those with active substance abuse compromising adherence, or those judged unsafe or noncompliant by investigators.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could improve understanding of how high altitude influences transplant complications, survival, and immune recovery, leading to better counseling and care plans for patients in plateau regions.

How similar studies have performed: This registry is the first prospective HSCT cohort specific to the Qinghai‑Tibet Plateau, though national and international HSCT registries elsewhere have successfully informed practice and outcomes.
