What this trial studies
This project aims to address the low rates of help-seeking among individuals with alcohol-related issues by providing targeted information interventions. It focuses on reducing barriers such as shame and fear of consequences that prevent people from seeking help. The study will assess whether increased transparency about the help-seeking process can encourage more individuals to access treatment for alcohol dependency and risky drinking behaviors. Conducted in Sweden, it recognizes the unique structure of addiction care, which involves both regional health care and municipal social services.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals exhibiting hazardous alcohol use as indicated by an AUDIT-C score of 3 or more.
Not a fit: Patients currently receiving care at a municipal or regional addiction clinic will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase the number of individuals seeking help for alcohol-related problems, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that addressing barriers to help-seeking can improve treatment access, suggesting potential success for this approach.
