What this trial studies

This randomized interventional study will enroll adults identified as high-risk for colorectal cancer and assign them to either a 12-week multi-component health promotion program or standard care. The intervention combines education, behavior-change techniques, and lifestyle counseling targeting diet, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use to build knowledge and self-efficacy. Outcomes include changes in lifestyle behaviors, colorectal cancer knowledge, and confidence to maintain healthy habits measured after the 12-week program. The study is conducted at the School of Nursing, China Medical University, and uses national and NCCN criteria to identify eligible high-risk participants.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 years or older identified as high-risk for colorectal cancer per NCCN and relevant Chinese consensus, who can communicate, give informed consent, and have no prior cancer or severe psychiatric disorder.

Not a fit: Individuals with a prior cancer diagnosis, severe psychiatric disorders, or those unable or unwilling to attend program sessions are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help high-risk adults adopt and maintain healthier behaviors that may lower their colorectal cancer risk.

How similar studies have performed: Previous lifestyle and health-promotion programs have produced modest improvements in diet, physical activity, and smoking cessation in at-risk groups, though direct evidence of reduced colorectal cancer incidence is limited.
