Growth and development in infants after liver transplant
Longitudinal Study on Physical Growth in Children After Liver Transplantation
We will track how babies up to 1 year old grow and develop over time after a liver transplant to find patterns that can improve follow-up care.

What this trial studies
This single-center, large-sample, long-term longitudinal observational project at Ren Ji Hospital follows infants who undergo first-time liver transplantation. Eligible participants are children aged ≤1 year with end-stage liver disease whose parents/legal guardians provide written informed consent; combined liver-kidney transplants and repeat liver transplants are excluded. Investigators will collect serial growth measurements (weight, length/height) and developmental milestone data at scheduled post-transplant visits to describe trends and characteristics over time. Findings are intended to inform intervention strategies and optimize follow-up protocols for pediatric liver transplant recipients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Infants (≤1 year old) with end-stage liver disease approved for a first liver transplant whose parents or legal guardians provide written informed consent.
Not a fit: Children older than one year, those undergoing combined liver-kidney transplantation, or those receiving a second liver transplant are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this study's data.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help clinicians detect and address growth or developmental delays earlier and tailor follow-up care for infant liver transplant recipients.
How similar studies have performed: Prior pediatric transplant cohorts have reported partial catch-up growth after liver transplantation, but comprehensive long-term, large-sample longitudinal data focused specifically on infants at a single center are limited.
