What this trial studies
This project aims to evaluate the impact of grocery delivery on weight gain and diet quality among low-income pregnant young women aged 14-26 in Michigan. The study employs a three-arm randomized controlled trial design, comparing usual WIC services with two intervention groups: one receiving WIC-approved food delivery and another receiving both food and unsweetened beverages. By assessing these different approaches, the study seeks to determine the effectiveness of food delivery and the additional benefits of replacing sugar-sweetened beverages with healthier options. The findings could inform future interventions to support pregnant women in achieving healthy weight gain.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are low-income pregnant young women aged 14-26 who are within 20 weeks of gestation and consume sugar-sweetened beverages.
Not a fit: Patients who are non-English speaking, have high-risk pregnancies, or live at the same address as another participant may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved dietary habits and healthier weight gain during pregnancy for low-income young women.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using food delivery interventions to improve dietary outcomes, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
