What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of oral glutamine on patients with gastric adenocarcinoma who are undergoing gastrectomy. It is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving at least 80 patients, who will be divided into treatment and control groups. The primary focus is on the efficacy of glutamine in addressing sarcopenia, while secondary endpoints include assessments of physical activity, weight loss, and nutritional profiles. Patients will undergo CT scans and wear smartwatches to monitor their daily activity levels before and after surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult patients diagnosed with gastric cancer who are scheduled for gastrectomy.

Not a fit: Patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, or those unable to tolerate oral feeding or wear monitoring devices, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve recovery and nutritional status in gastric cancer patients post-surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with glutamine supplementation in similar patient populations, suggesting potential efficacy.
