What this trial studies
This multi-country cross-sectional survey will invite 50 men and 50 women (100 total) aged 18 and older with advanced cancer from eight countries to complete an anonymous, one-time digital questionnaire accessed by a QR code at participating cancer clinics. Collected data include current weight and weight history, height, previous weight-loss attempts, education, marital status, body image measured by the Body Image Scale, nutrition-impact symptoms using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale, and recent dietary choices. No personal identifiers are collected, and Body Image Scale missing items will be handled per the scoring protocol while other missing data will be analyzed as complete cases without imputation. The investigators intend to compare perceptions of weight loss across genders and countries to inform gender-sensitive nutrition recommendations in palliative care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) with a clinical diagnosis of advanced cancer, an expected survival of more than three months, and the ability to understand the consent form are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients with an expected survival under three months or those unable to complete an anonymous digital questionnaire are unlikely to gain direct benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, results could help shape gender-sensitive medical nutrition guidance to improve quality of life and potentially disease outcomes for people with advanced cancer.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational surveys have explored body image and weight loss in cancer patients, but this eight-country, gender-balanced approach is relatively novel.
