Genicular artery embolization for knee osteoarthritis — patient registry

Creation Of a Prospective Registry For Genicular Artery Embolization At The Joint & Vascular Institute

Observational Joint & Vascular Institute · NCT07380906

What this trial studies

This prospective registry will collect real-world safety and effectiveness data on genicular artery embolization (GAE) performed as part of routine care for adults with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis refractory to medical therapy. Participants will complete standardized symptom and quality-of-life questionnaires, including pain scores (WOMAC, VAS), at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 36 months after the procedure. Safety events will be tracked using Society of Interventional Radiology guidelines. There is no control group; data will be analyzed to identify patient and procedural factors associated with better outcomes and to inform best practices.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis that has not improved with medical therapy and who are referred for GAE are ideal candidates for enrollment.

Not a fit: People who are pregnant, have significant bleeding disorders, severe uncontrolled comorbidities, or cannot consent are unlikely to be eligible or to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could show that GAE provides sustained pain relief and improved function for some people with knee osteoarthritis who have not responded to medical treatment.

How similar studies have performed: Early and small observational studies and case series have reported symptomatic improvement after GAE, but long-term, larger-scale real-world data remain limited.
