What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the impact of genetic information on adolescents and young adults with autism and related psychiatric disorders. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either a 1.5-hour genetic counseling session with a clinician or general genetic information via a leaflet. The study aims to measure changes in understanding, well-being, and empowerment using pre- and post-intervention questionnaires. Additionally, it will explore how mental health factors like anxiety and depression influence the effectiveness of the genetic counseling intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 30 living in Sweden who are interested in receiving genetic counseling information about autism.

Not a fit: Patients who are unwilling to complete pre- or post-intervention surveys or participate in genetic counseling may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters
