Gamified rehabilitation for children with amblyopia
The Effect of Cognitive Appraisal Theory on Adherence in Rehabilitation Training Games for Children With Amblyopia

What this trial studies
This intervention utilizes a gamification approach to help children with amblyopia develop rehabilitation habits through a structured program that combines cognitive evaluation theory and occlusion therapy. Participants in the experimental group engage in a 20-minute daily session over four weeks, which includes visual training and adherence to eye patch guidelines. A randomized controlled trial compares the effectiveness of this gamified intervention against a competing product, assessing ease of use, acceptability, and treatment compliance through parent-assisted adherence scales. The study aims to enhance treatment engagement and outcomes for children with amblyopia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children diagnosed with amblyopia who can communicate effectively and have parental consent to participate.
Not a fit: Patients with severe amblyopia or other psychological or physical disorders may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve treatment adherence and visual outcomes for children with amblyopia.
How similar studies have performed: While gamification in medical treatment is a growing field, this specific approach to amblyopia rehabilitation is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Diagnosis of amblyopia (including refractive amblyopia, strabismic amblyopia and mixed). * The child has no significant IQ deficits and has no difficulty communicating with others. * The children's teachers and parents gave their informed consent to participate in the experiment. The informed consent form was signed by the parents and is shown in the Appendix. Exclusion Criteria: * Severe amblyopia. * Suffering from other psychological or physical disorders. * Parents did not agree to sign the informed consent form or the child was not willing to participate in this experiment.
