What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a gamified physical therapy exercise software called Yoomi, designed to help hospitalized patients maintain mobility and prevent muscle loss while they are confined to bed. The software aims to engage patients in enjoyable exercises that can be performed safely in their beds, addressing the common issue of functional impairments due to prolonged bed rest. By utilizing this innovative approach, the study seeks to determine if patients can preserve their pre-hospitalization functional abilities without requiring constant staff assistance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 65 and older who are hospitalized and able to participate in in-bed exercises.
Not a fit: Patients with unstable psychiatric illnesses or those requiring intensive care may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance mobility and independence for elderly patients during and after hospitalization.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of gamified physical therapy software is novel, similar interventions have shown promise in improving patient mobility and outcomes in other settings.
