What this trial studies
This study examines the feasibility and acceptability of the HPV Detective video game, designed for families with youth aged 11-14, to promote HPV vaccination. The intervention will be tested in a clinical setting where parent-youth dyads will engage with the game prior to healthcare provider visits. The study will measure changes in vaccine intent and uptake, as well as identify factors that may affect the implementation of this intervention. By utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research aims to provide insights into the effectiveness of this innovative strategy in reducing health disparities related to HPV-associated cancers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are youth aged 11-14 who have not yet received the first dose of the HPV vaccine and their parents or legal guardians.
Not a fit: Patients who have already received the HPV vaccine or those unable to comprehend the consent forms due to cognitive issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase HPV vaccination rates among adolescents, leading to a reduction in HPV-related cancers.
How similar studies have performed: While innovative, this approach builds on existing interventions aimed at increasing vaccination rates, suggesting potential for success based on prior studies in similar domains.
