What this trial studies
This study examines the effects of the Sarcopenia Translation functional Exercise Program (STEP) on community-dwelling older adults at risk of sarcopenia. The STEP program is designed to overcome barriers such as low motivation and lack of resources by integrating functional exercise activities into daily routines. Over a 12-week period, participants will learn resistance training principles that can be easily applied in their everyday lives. The study aims to assess both the clinical effectiveness of the program and potential strategies for future community implementation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are community-dwelling adults aged 65 or older who are at risk of or diagnosed with sarcopenia.
Not a fit: Patients who are physically active according to guidelines or have severe mobility issues or cognitive impairments may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could help older adults improve their physical function and quality of life by reversing the effects of sarcopenia.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that exercise interventions can effectively address sarcopenia, but this approach of integrating functional exercises into daily routines is relatively novel.
