What this trial studies
Participants are offered free screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV with one-on-one counseling and treatment options if results are positive. The program can provide no-cost expedited treatment for participants and their sexual partners and offers the option of rescreening three months after treatment. Eligible participants are Black/African American individuals aged 15–26 who live or spend most of their time in Orleans Parish and have had vaginal sex at least once; those who are pregnant, known to be HIV positive, non–English speakers, or unable to consent are excluded. The intervention is conducted at Tulane University in New Orleans in collaboration with NIH/NIAID.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black/African American individuals aged 15–26 who live or spend most of their time in Orleans Parish and have had vaginal sex at least once, are able to consent, and are not pregnant or known to be HIV positive.
Not a fit: People outside the 15–26 age range, non-Black individuals, known HIV-positive or pregnant people, non–English speakers, or those unable to consent would not be eligible and are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could increase testing and timely treatment, reduce untreated infections, and help narrow STI disparities in the local Black youth population.
How similar studies have performed: Previous seek-test-and-treat public health programs have shown success increasing detection and treatment of STIs and improving linkage to care, though partner expedited treatment outcomes have varied by setting.
