What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the impact of providing free reading glasses on the productivity of textile workers aged 35 and older who suffer from presbyopia. Conducted as a randomized-controlled trial, participants will be recruited from a garment manufacturer in Karnataka, India, and their productivity will be measured before and after receiving the glasses. The study seeks to address the significant global issue of uncorrected presbyopia and its effects on work performance, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. By assessing the effectiveness of this intervention, the research hopes to provide insights into improving workplace productivity through simple optical corrections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are textile workers aged 35 years and older with uncorrected presbyopia employed by Shahi Exports Private Limited.
Not a fit: Patients with ocular pathology or those unlikely to complete follow-up due to relocation or job changes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance the work productivity and quality of life for textile workers suffering from presbyopia.
How similar studies have performed: While few trials have explored the impact of healthcare interventions on work performance, the approach of providing free spectacles to improve productivity is relatively novel.
