What this trial studies

This is a cross-sectional validation comparing the Five Digits Test (FDT) to the standard Color-Word Interference Test (CWIT) and the BRIEF-A questionnaire in adults with diagnosed or suspected ADHD or autism and healthy controls. Participants complete demographic and health questions, then are randomly assigned to take the FDT or CWIT first to control for order and learning effects. Researchers will use correlation coefficients to examine convergent validity and perform regressions and group comparisons (t-tests/ANCOVAs) to adjust for background variables and test differences. The protocol excludes people with active substance addiction, insufficient Swedish language to consent, current sedative use, or inability to complete neuropsychological testing.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) diagnosed with or under evaluation for ADHD or autism who can read Swedish well enough to consent and complete testing and are able to undergo neuropsychological assessment are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with active alcohol or drug addiction, those taking sedatives that affect testing, non-Swedish speakers who cannot consent, or individuals unable to complete neuropsychological testing are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the FDT could give clinicians a simpler, lower-language-demand tool to measure inhibition, helpful for patients with limited reading or language skills.

How similar studies have performed: The CWIT and BRIEF-A are well-established measures of inhibition and executive function, while the FDT is a newer, less-tested tool with limited prior validation data.
