What this trial studies
This 10-week online program offers bilingual (English/Spanish) options and pairs a stepped-care mental health counseling pathway with an evidence-based, instructor-led exercise program. Participants complete surveys at baseline, 2, 6, and 10 weeks and physical ability tests (muscular endurance and balance) at weeks 1 and 10. The exercise component includes one 1-hour session per week plus three 30-minute sessions to support ongoing activity, while counseling offers an orientation and up to seven 1-hour individual sessions, with the number determined by symptom severity. Sessions are delivered via Zoom, recorded for training with identities protected, and require about 1–3 hours per week.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are English- or Spanish-speaking adult Latina women living in Colorado who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or finished primary treatment within the past 6 months and have internet access.
Not a fit: Patients with metastatic disease, major medical contraindications to exercise, those in vulnerable categories (e.g., pregnant, homeless, incarcerated, severe auditory impairment), or those already receiving licensed mental health counseling or a structured exercise program may not receive benefit or are excluded.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could reduce anxiety and depression and increase physical activity and overall quality of life for Latina cancer survivors.
How similar studies have performed: Prior studies combining cognitive-behavioral approaches and exercise have shown benefits for cancer survivors, but stepped-care programs specifically tailored to Latina survivors are less well tested.
