What this trial studies
The study will review clinical encounters in general practice for adults diagnosed with HIV between January 1, 2021 and July 30, 2024 to identify visits where HIV testing could have been offered but was not. It will collect demographic and clinical data and analyze the timing of diagnosis and prior primary care contacts to map missed opportunities. Barriers to testing will be explored using record-based indicators and patterns of care. The work is observational and will be conducted at the Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Service at CHU de Strasbourg.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who were diagnosed with HIV in France between January 1, 2021 and July 30, 2024 and who were resident in France for at least one year before the relevant period are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People diagnosed outside the specified date range, recent arrivals to France within a year before or during January–July 2024, or those without accessible general practice records are unlikely to benefit from this study's findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians catch HIV earlier by changing testing practices in primary care and reducing late diagnoses.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies in Europe have repeatedly documented frequent missed HIV testing opportunities in primary care, so this approach builds on established evidence.
