What this trial studies
This program aims to address blindness and visual impairment among senior citizens in Shanghai, particularly focusing on uncorrected refractive errors. By establishing a public health service mechanism, the initiative will screen and correct refractive errors in the elderly population using a three-level eye disease prevention network. The program will provide spectacles and related services directly to communities to ensure early identification and correction of vision issues. The goal is to significantly reduce the prevalence of blindness and visual impairment in this demographic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are Shanghai residents aged 18 years and older who are experiencing visual impairment due to refractive errors.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive or mobility disorders, as well as those who do not reside in Shanghai or are younger than 18 years old, may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could greatly enhance the quality of life for elderly patients by improving their vision and reducing the incidence of blindness.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on refractive error correction in elderly populations have shown positive outcomes, indicating that this approach is supported by previous successes.
