What this trial studies

This randomized, waitlist-controlled program delivers a four-week online expressive writing workshop with weekly prompts and a minimum 15-minute writing task each week. Participants are randomly assigned to start immediately or after a four-week wait, and all complete three surveys over a 12-week period to track changes in mental wellness. Sharing writing in a private online community is optional. Researchers will compare mental wellness changes between the immediate and delayed start groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are adults aged 18–39 who have a hematologic malignancy (in treatment or post-treatment) or the informal caregivers of such young adults, who live in the U.S., Canada, or U.S. territories and can read and write English.

Not a fit: People under 18, those living outside the U.S., Canada, or their territories, or those who cannot read or write English would not be eligible and therefore would not be expected to benefit from participating.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If helpful, the workshop could offer a low-cost, accessible way to improve mood and coping for young adults with blood cancer and their caregivers.

How similar studies have performed: Previous expressive writing programs in cancer and other chronic illness groups have produced modest improvements in emotional well-being, though results vary and the young-adult blood cancer subgroup has been less studied.
