Exploring the link between cancer and blood clots
The Correlation Between Circulatory Tumor Cells and Venous Thrombosis
This study is trying to see how cancer cells in the blood might be linked to blood clots in cancer patients and whether treatments like aspirin can help.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between circulating tumor cells and venous thrombosis in cancer patients. It aims to compare leukocyte populations in cancer-associated thrombosis and venous thromboembolism, identify factors contributing to increased thrombosis risk, and evaluate the effects of aspirin or NOACs on these conditions. The study will analyze circulating tumor cells from biopsies to better understand cancer metastasis and its implications for thrombosis. By examining these factors, the research seeks to enhance the understanding of cancer-related thrombosis mechanisms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with a history of cancer or those who have been cancer-free for at least five years and have undergone catheter-based thrombectomy.
Not a fit: Patients experiencing shock or severe sepsis, or those with a recent cancer diagnosis within the last five years, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and treatment strategies for venous thrombosis in cancer patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated a strong correlation between cancer and thrombosis, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing research.
