Exploring the connection between gut bacteria and brain tumors
Study of Human Brain-Gut Axis and Gut Microbiome In Patients With Brain Lesions - Repository for Neuroscience Research
This study is trying to see if the bacteria in our gut can affect the growth of brain tumors in patients who are having surgery to remove them.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how the gut microbiome may influence the growth and progression of malignant brain tumors. It aims to establish a biorepository at Mayo Clinic Florida by collecting various biological samples, including fecal, urine, blood, saliva, and tissue, from patients undergoing tumor resection. The study will utilize advanced techniques such as spatial transcriptomics and multi-omics to analyze the relationship between gut microorganisms and clinical outcomes in brain cancer patients. Participants will also complete questionnaires to provide additional clinical information.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients undergoing resection for a central nervous system tumor.
Not a fit: Patients younger than 18 years old will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to new insights into how gut health affects brain tumor treatment and outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between the gut microbiome and various diseases is being explored, this specific approach focusing on brain tumors is relatively novel.
