Exploring genetic causes of ALS in Norway

Genetisk Studie av Amyotrofisk Lateral Sklerose (ALS)

Observational Sykehuset Telemark · NCT05119387

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the genetic factors associated with the development of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in Norway. Participants diagnosed with probable or definite ALS will complete a questionnaire about their family history and provide a blood sample for genetic analysis. The collected data, including clinical information and consent forms, will be sent to the Department of Medical Genetics at Telemark Hospital Trust for analysis. Patients will have the option to receive their genetic results in a diagnostic context.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with probable or definite ALS who are able to provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients who are not competent to give consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the genetic underpinnings of ALS, potentially leading to improved diagnosis and treatment options for patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies exploring genetic factors in ALS have shown promise, indicating that this approach is supported by previous research.
