What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the relationship between serum biomarkers and the occurrence of delirium in patients following cardiovascular surgery. It focuses on the role of histone lactylation and Alzheimer's disease-related markers in understanding the mechanisms behind postoperative delirium. By analyzing serum samples, the study aims to identify potential biomarkers that could predict or explain delirium in this patient population. The findings could enhance our understanding of delirium and its inflammatory connections in the context of cardiovascular procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients scheduled to undergo cardiovascular surgery who can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of neurological or psychiatric diseases, or severe sensory impairments, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of delirium in patients after cardiovascular surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study is novel, previous research has indicated a connection between biomarkers and delirium, suggesting potential for success.
