What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to assess the feasibility of conducting a randomized trial of exercise therapy for patients diagnosed with mesothelioma. It will evaluate the recruitment rates and identify barriers to both recruitment and retention in the study. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a standard care group or an exercise therapy group, which includes a personalized 12-week exercise, nutrition, and wellbeing program. The study will also gather data on quality of life and fitness assessments at the beginning and end of the follow-up period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with mesothelioma who have a performance status of 0 to 2 and a clinical frailty score of 5 or less.
Not a fit: Patients with a performance status of 3 or higher or a clinical frailty score of 6 or more may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved quality of life and treatment outcomes for mesothelioma patients through tailored exercise interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in the context of mesothelioma, similar studies in other cancer types have shown positive outcomes with exercise therapy.
