What this trial studies

This observational study aims to track the acoustic and perceptual changes in the voices of trans men undergoing hormone therapy. Participants will be evaluated at baseline and after the 4th and 8th doses of testosterone, with assessments including videolaryngostroboscopy and self-report scales during psychiatric visits. The study will analyze the relationship between testosterone levels and both psychosocial and vocal characteristics over the course of treatment. A total of 28 participants will be included, and various statistical methods will be employed to analyze the collected data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are trans men diagnosed with gender dysphoria who have decided to start hormone therapy.

Not a fit: Patients with vocal fold lesions, prior voice therapy or surgery, or those with neurological disorders affecting voice quality may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into how hormone therapy affects voice characteristics in trans men, potentially improving treatment approaches.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically focused on voice changes in trans men during hormone therapy, similar studies in transgender populations have shown promising results in understanding vocal changes.
