Examining vitamin B12 levels in stroke patients

SERUM VITAMIN B12 LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH HEMORRHAGIC VS ISCHEMIC CEREBROVASCULAR EVENT.

Observational Hospital General de Mexicali · NCT06190314

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to compare serum vitamin B12 levels in patients diagnosed with hemorrhagic versus ischemic cerebrovascular events. It will involve a prospective analysis of hospitalized patients at the General Hospital of Mexicali, focusing on demographic characteristics, comorbidities, and laboratory diagnoses. The study will also assess the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency and its correlation with disease severity and mortality. Data will be collected from electronic clinical records and will include all eligible patients presenting with stroke symptoms.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years old who have been hospitalized with a diagnosis of either ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke.

Not a fit: Patients who do not undergo laboratory testing during hospitalization or lack a cranial CT scan will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the role of vitamin B12 in stroke outcomes, potentially guiding treatment and prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between vitamin B12 levels and stroke outcomes has been explored in other studies, this specific comparison between hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes is relatively novel.
