What this trial studies
This observational study analyzes the dynamics of suicide in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the potential mental health impacts of the pandemic and associated health measures. It aims to investigate whether there has been an increase in completed suicides during the pandemic period compared to previous years. The study will utilize data from deceased adult patients who died between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021, while ensuring compliance with ethical standards regarding personal data reuse. The findings may help clarify the true impact of the pandemic on suicide rates and mental health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults who died by suicide between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021, with no prior opposition to the use of their personal data for research.
Not a fit: Patients who did not die by suicide or those who expressed opposition to the reuse of their personal data for research purposes will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the mental health consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, potentially guiding future mental health interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies examining mental health impacts during pandemics, this specific analysis of suicide dynamics in the context of COVID-19 is novel and has not been extensively tested.
