What this trial studies

This study investigates how experiences of microaggressions affect various aspects of smoking behavior, including withdrawal symptoms and cravings, among Latinx adults who smoke daily. Participants will undergo two experimental sessions: one where they abstain from smoking for 16 hours and another where they smoke as usual. The study aims to understand the relationship between microaggressions and smoking lapses, utilizing a novel multi-modal approach to assess these dynamics. By analyzing the impact of smoking deprivation, the research seeks to uncover potential moderating effects on smoking behavior.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult Latinx individuals who smoke daily and have experienced microaggressions in the past six months.

Not a fit: Patients who are not daily smokers, do not identify as Hispanic or Latino, or have current psychotic symptoms or active suicidality may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to targeted interventions that help Latinx smokers manage their smoking behaviors more effectively in the context of discrimination.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on microaggressions and smoking behaviors in Latinx adults is novel, related studies have explored the impact of discrimination on health behaviors, indicating potential for success.
