Examining the link between interstitial lung disease and heart problems

Interstitial Lung Disease is a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease; Potential Role for Systemic Biomarkers (Krebs Von Den Lungen-6 (KL-6))

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to recruit patients diagnosed with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) from the outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospital. The study will evaluate cardiovascular comorbidities through a thorough assessment that includes patient history, ECG, lipid profile, and echocardiography. Additionally, blood biomarkers such as CRP and KL-6 levels will be measured to identify risk factors for cardiovascular issues among IPF patients using regression analysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis.

Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate in the study will not benefit from its findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of cardiovascular risks in patients with interstitial lung disease, leading to better management and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there is emerging evidence linking interstitial lung disease with cardiovascular issues, this specific approach to studying IPF and its cardiovascular comorbidities is relatively novel.
