Examining the link between chronic constipation and sacroiliac joint dysfunction in women

Investigation of the Relationship Between Functional Constipation and Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Abant Izzet Baysal University · NCT05432453

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to compare women with chronic constipation to those without, focusing on the potential relationship between chronic constipation and sacroiliac joint dysfunction. It will evaluate the presence of sacroiliac joint dysfunction in both groups and explore how these conditions may influence each other through neural connections. The study is based on the hypothesis that chronic constipation may be associated with dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint due to shared neural pathways. No prior studies have specifically investigated this relationship, making this research novel.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women who meet the diagnostic criteria for functional constipation and have not used laxatives for at least four weeks.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological or metabolic disorders, or those currently taking medications for various health conditions, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the management of chronic constipation by highlighting a potential underlying musculoskeletal issue.

How similar studies have performed: This approach is novel and has not been previously tested in the literature.
