What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how problematic smartphone use impacts cognitive functions and upper extremity performance in young adults aged 18-25. Participants will be assessed for smartphone addiction using the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Form, and their cognitive functions will be evaluated through various tests including the Stroop Test and Trail Making Test. Additionally, upper extremity functions will be measured through grip strength and reaction time assessments using specialized devices. The study aims to provide insights into the relationship between smartphone usage and cognitive as well as physical performance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are young adults aged 18-25 who use smartphones for at least one hour daily.
Not a fit: Patients with recent upper extremity surgeries, trauma, or diagnosed neurological, rheumatic, or psychiatric diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify the cognitive and physical impacts of smartphone addiction, leading to better management strategies for affected individuals.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically examining the combined effects of smartphone addiction on cognitive and physical functions, related studies have shown significant impacts of excessive smartphone use on mental health and cognitive performance.
