What this trial studies

This research investigates how various protein and fiber-rich foods affect glucose metabolism and gut health in individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes. Participants will undergo a controlled postprandial intervention where their plasma amino acids, lipids, and glucose levels will be monitored after consuming high fiber and protein meals. The study aims to compare the effects of plant-based versus animal-based proteins on metabolic responses and gut microbiota. Additionally, in vitro experiments will analyze the differences in metabolites produced by these proteins in the gut.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 30-65 with a BMI between 25 and 35 who are at risk for type 2 diabetes.

Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases requiring regular medication, such as type 2 diabetes, or those following a gluten-free or vegan diet may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to dietary recommendations that improve blood sugar control and overall health for individuals at risk of type 2 diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in understanding the impact of dietary proteins on metabolic health, suggesting this approach has potential.
