What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the prevalence of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety among endurance athletes, including marathon runners, ultra-endurance runners, and triathletes. Utilizing the IOC assessment tool and various disorder-specific screening questionnaires, the study will gather data on mental health symptoms, risk factors, and demographic information. The research will focus on both recreational and elite athletes over the age of 16 who have participated in official endurance races.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are endurance athletes aged 16 and older, including both recreational and elite participants.
Not a fit: Patients who have not competed in an official endurance race or are younger than 16 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the mental health challenges faced by endurance athletes, leading to better support and interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting mental health in endurance athletes, studies in related populations have indicated a growing recognition of mental health issues, suggesting potential for success in this area.
