Examining lipid profiles in young patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
Assessment of Lipid Profile in Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This study looks at the cholesterol and fat levels in young people recently diagnosed with lupus to see how the disease affects these levels and if it might increase their risk of heart problems later on.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the pattern and frequency of dyslipoproteinemia in patients newly diagnosed with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (jSLE). It will evaluate how disease activity affects the lipid profiles of these patients, focusing on the potential link between lipid abnormalities and the risk of premature atherosclerosis. By examining patients at the time of their SLE diagnosis, the study seeks to identify specific lipid profile changes associated with active disease, without the confounding effects of corticosteroid therapy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 5 to 18 years diagnosed with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus according to established classification criteria.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently on lipid-lowering medications or have other autoimmune diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of cardiovascular risks in young patients with jSLE and inform better management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated distinct lipid abnormalities in SLE patients, suggesting that this approach may yield valuable insights.
