Examining how sleep disorders affect immune response in COVID-19 patients
Impact of Sleep Disorders on Innate Immunity in COVID-19 Patients. A Cohort Study
This study is testing how sleep problems, like obstructive sleep apnea, affect the immune response in COVID-19 patients and whether getting a flu shot can help improve that response.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between sleep disorders, specifically obstructive sleep apnea, and innate immunity in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. It aims to understand how untreated sleep issues may weaken the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 and whether influenza vaccination can enhance this response. The study will evaluate COVID-19 patients diagnosed during the early pandemic and assess their immune function in relation to their sleep health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old who were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the first year of the pandemic and have undiagnosed sleep disorders.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 or over 70 years old, recently recovered from COVID-19, or those with treated obstructive sleep apnea will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for COVID-19 patients with sleep disorders, potentially enhancing their immune response.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between sleep and immune function is established, this specific investigation into COVID-19 and sleep disorders is novel and has not been extensively tested.
