What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between self-reported quality of parent-adolescent communication at the time of psychiatric admission and subsequent treatment outcomes in adolescents. It aims to determine if better communication correlates with greater symptom reduction over a six-month period. Additionally, the study will track changes in communication quality during inpatient treatment and assess whether improvements predict better outcomes. The analysis will utilize linear and logistic regression models to evaluate the data, considering various covariates such as symptom severity and socioeconomic status.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents admitted to inpatient psychiatric care at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
Not a fit: Patients with severe symptom burden at admission or those who do not speak German may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance treatment strategies for adolescents by highlighting the importance of parent-adolescent communication in mental health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on communication quality in this context may be novel, related studies have shown that effective communication can positively influence treatment outcomes in mental health.
