What this trial studies

This clinical intervention investigates the effects of various plant-based protein-rich food products, which differ in their level of processing, on the human gut microbiome and metabolism. The study will involve 38 healthy participants who will consume unprocessed, mildly processed, and heavily refined plant protein products. By assessing changes in gut microbiome composition and metabolic function, the research aims to clarify the nutritional quality of these food products. The findings could provide insights into how processing affects the health benefits associated with plant-based diets.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18-65 with a BMI between 18.5 and 27.

Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases requiring continuous medication or those on gluten-free or vegan diets may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify the healthiest forms of plant-based proteins, guiding dietary choices for better gut health and metabolism.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on the specific impacts of processed plant protein products, studies on plant-based diets have shown significant health benefits, suggesting potential for success in this area.
