What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the role of HER2 status in patients with esophagogastric adenocarcinoma (EGA) and its association with clinical outcomes. It aims to gather data on the prevalence of HER2 overexpression and its prognostic significance among newly diagnosed patients. The study will include patients diagnosed from 2000 to April 2024, ensuring that HER2 status is routinely tested in all cases. By analyzing the clinical significance of HER2 expression, the study seeks to enhance understanding of targeted therapies in EGA treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 18 years or older with newly diagnosed esophagogastric adenocarcinoma across all stages.
Not a fit: Patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve treatment strategies for patients with esophagogastric adenocarcinoma by identifying the prognostic value of HER2 status.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies, such as the ToGA trial and DESTINY-gastric01 and DESTINY-gastric02, have shown success with HER2-targeted therapies in similar patient populations.
