Examining gut bacteria and blood metabolites in pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis patients
Gastrointestinal Microflora and Serum Metabolomics in Patients With Pancreatic Cancer and Chronic Pancreatitis
This study is trying to see if the bacteria in the gut and certain blood markers can help us understand pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis by comparing samples from patients and healthy people.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to collect throat swabs, saliva, feces, and serum samples from patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, and healthy individuals. The goal is to analyze and clarify the characteristics of oral flora and serum metabolome specifically in pancreatic cancer patients. By comparing these samples across different groups, the study seeks to identify potential biomarkers or patterns associated with pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis. This approach may provide insights into the role of gut microbiota and metabolites in these conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study include individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma or chronic pancreatitis, as well as healthy individuals for comparison.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have coagulation disorders, or have used antibiotics or probiotics in the past three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of new biomarkers for early detection and monitoring of pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies examining the gut microbiome and metabolomics in cancer have shown promising results.
