What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess frailty as a measure of biological aging in older HIV-infected individuals in Hong Kong. It will evaluate the association of frailty with mortality and quality of life, identify risk factors for developing frailty, and compare outcomes between frail and non-frail individuals. The study will involve various physical and cognitive assessments, as well as blood tests to measure metabolic parameters, over a 10-year period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50 and older who are HIV-positive.

Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 50 or do not consent to participate will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of frailty in older HIV patients, leading to better management and care strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While frailty has been studied in various populations, this specific focus on older HIV-infected individuals is relatively novel.
